Athletes needed to take part in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. If there are any athletes who are free next Tuesday morning and would like to take part in the parade, can you please let Theresa know. We are looking for as many as possible to walk with the Shoreline Group. Shoreline represents the swimming pool, & community centre and Charlesland Sport & Rec. Park , which of course includes the running track. It is our intention to represent all the sports that we facilitate, so we will need lots of people in the group. If you are available to come with us, please text me on 0868635797.

Charlesland will be running Easter Camps during the holidays. They run for 4 days each week Mon – Thurs the 1st week and Tues – Fri the 2nd week. This year we have a new and exciting addition to our camps and you guys are some of the first to know about it. We have Spaceballs ( big inflatable balls, that you get strapped into and pushed around in) and after trying them out on Thurs I can tell you that they are great fun indeed and very safe. Places are limited on the camps, so if you are interested, get your name down now.

Error. When I did the last note I forgot that we wouldn’t have training on next Tues. because it’s St. Patrick’s Day. We will do the ‘Wicklow Mile Challenge’ on the following Tuesday 24th March. This event is being run in an effort to cover 2000+ miles in Wicklow. A number of schools and other groups have already completed it and we hope that lots of our members will take part, as we are still a long way off our target. It costs €1 to take part and you will be given a wrist band and a certificate with your time on it, when you complete the mile. There is an overall prize for the group who clocks up the most miles. Normal training will take place for club members who do not want to take part, and athletes can return to their groups, once they have finished their run.

Don’t forget to check and see if any of the clothes in my car boot are yours, before I pass them on to charity.

Groups 3,4 & 5 will train in the hall again next Friday and groups 1 & 2 (Theresa/Ryan/Aidan) will train on the track, to prepare for T&F competition.

Congratulations to Amy Howard, Claire Fox and Niamh Kearney for their excellent performances in the Schools All Ireland XC last Saturday, in Jordanstown, Belfast.

Apologies to Sean Ryder for leaving him out of the results last week and well done to him on the silver medal and the PB in the Shot Putt.

A few notes for the diary.

On this Thursday evening there will be a Table Quiz in the Woodlands Lodge @ 8.30pm, to help raise funds for the “Wicklow Triple A Alliance” which is a support group for people with Autism & ADHD. €40 for a table of 4, but if you haven’t got 4 we can make up teams. Support would be greatly appreciated, so do come along if you can.

On next Tues. at training, we will be running the ‘Wicklow Mile Challenge’ This event is being run by Charlesland Sport & Recreation Park over the last few weeks, in an effort to run 2000+ miles.

Once again my car boot is packed full of clothes which have been left behind after training. Please come and check if any of it is yours as I will only hold it for one more week and then I will pass it on to charity. I have tops, tracksuit bottoms, coats, hats, scarves, gloves and water bottles and they all belong to people from our club.

Groups 3,4 & 5 will train in the hall on Friday next and groups 1 & 2 (Theresa/Ryan/Aidan) will train on the track.

3rd March 2009

What a weekend! Congratulations to the athletes who competed at the Leinster Indoors last weekend. We had a terrific competition and fantastic results.

At U12 Conor Dempsey won gold in the 60m and silver in the LJ and hurdles, where Luke Donoghue finished 4th. Simon Power won silver in the 60m and Jamie Fallon won bronze. It is rare to see a 1,2,3,for any club at Leinster level particularly in the sprints, so well done indeed. With Scott Howard’s help the boys also won gold in the 4x100m relay.

Our U13 girls team Aoife Phelan, Al Brooksi, Rosa Kirwan and Kirsty Tomlin also won gold in their 4x100m.

At U15, Emmett Healy won bronze in the hurdles, Savanna Craib was 2nd in the HJ and AmyHoward was 5th in her 800m final.

U18 Niamh Kearney won the 800m with Aisling McGee in 3rd , while Isabel Malley was 3rd in the 300m. The girls relay team, Ellie Hartnett, Niamh Kearney, Aisling McGee, Isabel Malleyl and Laura Boylan won the U19, 2x200m and were 2nd in the U18. Ferdia Kenny won the LJ and was 2nd in the 60m.

At U19, Patrick Costello was 2nd in the 60m.

A great set of results indeed. Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone.

Well done also to all the other athletes who took part, Niamh Baldwin, Lorcan Lalor, Aisling Moore, Niamh Dalton, Aisling McCabe, Hayley Fallon, Katie Malone and Fabi & Vali Penavalle there were some very good performances indeed. Tomorrow, I will ring the athletes who have qualified for All Irelands to give you time, place and date.

I would like to compliment the athletes who travelled with the club at the weekend. The behaviour, as always, was excellent and I hope everyone enjoyed the experience. Apologies for the very late return on Sun. night, but events ran on longer than expected.

A huge ‘Thank You’ to Lesley Kinane, Ciara Stuart, Deirdre Kearney and Ryan Montgomery for all their help over the weekend, both in looking after the group and officiating at the events. Thanks also to Patrick Costello for all the help with the LJ. There was a lot of multi-tasking done all weekend and a lot of very tired bodies at the end of it.

Groups 2,3,4 &5 will train in the hall on Friday and Groups 1 will train on the track to prepare for the All Irelands.
