Glendalough AC Wins Club Cup Trophy at Wicklow Off Road Championships

Glendalough AC reclaimed the Club Cup Trophy at the fifth edition of the Athletics Wicklow Off‑Road Running Championships, returning to the top spot for the first time since 2023. The event held in conjunction with Glendalough AC and Laragh GFC’s annual Run the Ridge mountain race fundraiser, once again proved a standout fixture on the Wicklow athletics calendar.

The home club put in a mighty shift across all categories, finishing with 11 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals, their biggest haul yet. Last year’s winners, Parnell AC, settled for second place this time around, with Lakeshore Striders taking third.

The club’s medal count was boosted by Aaron Cullen, who became Glendalough AC’s first overall senior 10km championship winner. Tim Ivers of Parnell AC chased him home for second, while Bart Loer of St. Benedict’s Inbhear Mór rounded out the podium. It was 1,2,3 for Parnell AC in the women’s 10km overall standings, Caroline Harney Ayton claimed the overall 10km title, Emily Ryan finished second while Lynne Whelehan Sheehan placed third. Benjamin Butler of Kilcoole Ac was the first Wicklow man across the line in the 20km championship race while Glendalough AC’s Catherine Devitt won the women’s race by a 5 minute margin.

The junior 3km race continues to gather momentum, giving young runners a lively and challenging introduction to off‑road racing. This year saw 28 juniors toe the line across the various age categories, a great sign for the future of Wicklow athletics.

The day wrapped up with medal presentations for both individual and team winners. Bill Porter, speaking on behalf of Athletics Wicklow, paid tribute to Glendalough AC and Laragh GFC for their top‑class organisation, well‑marked course, excellent marshalling, accurate timing from MyRunResults and the warm post‑race atmosphere.
