The Athletics Wicklow Track & Field Championship wrapped up in thrilling fashion last weekend at the Shoreline Track in Greystones, where clubs from across the county gathered for the much-anticipated relay programme.
Friday night saw a packed schedule filled with intensity, excitement, and nail-biting finishes, beginning with the introduction of a brand-new event—the U16 Mixed Relay.
It was Inbhear Dee who set the tone for the evening, claiming gold in the inaugural race and establishing themselves as the club to watch.
The Senior and Master athletes were next on the track for the 4x400m relays, and the competition did not disappoint. Inbhear Dee’s dominance continued with a win in the Men’s Masters category, while Kilcoole A.C. showcased their depth and experience by taking top honors in both the Senior and Master Ladies races.
Juvenile competitors brought incredible energy to the evening, with Bray Runners taking gold in the U14 Girls and Inbhear Dee continuing their medal haul with a victory in the U14 Boys.
The action intensified in the 4x100m events, where adult athletes returned to the track hungry for more. Bray Runners triumphed in a tightly contested Senior Ladies race, followed by the Masters with Kilcoole A.C once again taking the top spot with St Benedict Inbhear Mhor and Inbhear Dee in second and third, respectively.
One of the night’s most exciting moments came in the U16 Girls’ final, which ended in a
near photo finish. Lakeshore Striders A.C. edged out the competition to take gold in dramatic fashion. In the U12 category, Bray Runners (Girls) and Greystones A.C. (Boys) emerged as champions after standout performances in the heats and finals.
The Mixed Relays provided further drama, with Kilcoole A.C. clinching the win in the Masters division, followed by Bray Runners and St Benedict Inbhear Mhor. In the Junior Mixed race, Inbhear Dee added yet another gold to their growing collection. Lakeshore Striders made a strong statement with a win in the U15 Girls, but Inbhear Dee responded
swiftly, topping the U15 Boys.
As the meet drew to a close, the points battle between Inbhear Dee, Lakeshore, and
Kilcoole was neck-and-neck. But it was a clutch victory in the U13 Boys that tipped the scales—securing the overall championship for Inbhear Dee.
It was a night to remember in Greystones, filled with fierce competition, community spirit,
and outstanding athletic talent.
Congratulations to all participating clubs and especially to Inbhear Dee for clinching the coveted title of overall relay champions
