
Lakeshore Striders Lead the Way as Wicklow Juvenile League Kicks Off at Russborough House

Blessington, 16 November 2025 — The Athletics Wicklow Juvenile League opened its 2025–26 season at the picturesque Russborough House Park, where young athletes from across the county competed in 12 events across girls’ and boys’ categories. In a day of spirited racing, Lakeshore Striders emerged as early leaders Followed by Kilcoole and Inbhear Dee.
Bright Beginnings for the Youngest Athletes
Racing began with the Under-6 200 m events. In the girls’ race, Eabha Conway of Aughrim took first place, while the boys’ event was won by Kade Egan of Lakeshore Striders. The Girls Under-8 400 m brought an early show of strength from Lakeshore Striders, who swept the top four positions through Erika Egar, Lucy Reid, Esme Kelly and Ellis Egan.
Strong Middle-Distance Performances
In the Girls Under-10 800 m, Olivia Doyle of Greystones & District took the win, ahead of Orla O’Neill of Parnell and Emilia Kelly of Lakeshore Striders. The Boys Under-10 800 m title went to Ben McNally of Kilcoole, with Eoghan Miley of Lakeshore Striders finishing second. In the Under-12 1,200 m races, the winners were Ciara Fay of Kilcoole and Fionn Tilson of Greystones & District.
Older Age Groups Deliver Quality Racing
Parnell’s Matilda Ayton claimed victory in the Girls Under-14 race, followed closely by Liadh Fitzmaurice of Roundwood & District. In the Girls Under-16 race, Jessica O’Connor of Roundwood & District finished strongest to take the win. The Boys Under-14 race was dominated by Inbhear Dee, who swept the top three positions with Charlie Carpenter, Sean Brennan and Jack Sullivan. The Boys Under-16 event saw a strong win for Eoghán O’Reilly of St Benedict Inbhear Mór.
Club Standings After Round 1
With 12 events completed, Lakeshore Striders lead the overall standings on 189.66 points, followed by Kilcoole on 129.07 and Inbhear Dee on 108.25. Roundwood & District and St Benedict Inbhear Mór complete the top five.
What’s Next
Round 1 provided a strong start for athletes of all ages, with tight club battles already emerging. As preparations begin for Round 2, teams will be eager to build on early momentum in what promises to be a competitive and exciting league season.
